I will be landing in Canada in April and planning to settle in Calgary/Edmonton (Alberta. Any Advice regardingWe Answered:
I would start at the Job Bank listings with the Canadian Government. When starting to search from the outside, the Government site would be the most trustworthy. The provincial government also lists jobs they have open.

In Canada, what is the highest "in altitude" corporate building? We Answered:
To answer your question the highest asl "corporate" building would be the "Suncor" Building in Calgary Alberta.Toronto has the......."First Canadian Place"....298m tall and ...city is 75m asl equals 373m total.
Calgary has the ......."Suncor Building"...........215m tall and city is 1048m asl equals 1263m. total.
In Calgary "The Bow" is currently under construction and will be 235m..so the highest asl eventually!
Glad to help ! *S* (Michael C...)

Considering how expensive it now is to live in Alberta's two major cities (Edmonton and Calgary), my advice would be to make certain you have a viable source of income BEFORE arriving.I'm in engineering, and the two job search engines our company uses (which are the best in Canada) are:
www.workopolis.com
and
www.monster.ca
I'm a Calgarian, born and raised, so obviously I will say that Calgary is the better of the two cities :) But seriously, I think it is anyway.
As for accommodations and schooling for your son, I'm not certain about what areas of Edmonton are best, but here in Calgary, your best bet for decent and safe areas are in the Northwest and Southwest quadrants of the city. Both the Separate school system (Catholic), and the public system offer a very good education for all students. There are also charter and private school options, but the cost can be a bit much for some families. Rental accomodations in Calgary are very pricey (average rent is around $1000/month for a very basic 2 bdrm apartment) and the vacancy rate is quite low, so finding a place to stay could be a little tricky. Calgary's two major newspapers are probably your best source of info for current rental listings - the websites for those two newspapers are:
www.calgarysun.com
and
www. calgaryherald.com
As long as you're a qualified professional in a field that is in demand here in Alberta, the employment thing shouldn't be too much of an issue - the accomodations will be the biggest challenge you face. Good luck, and welcome to Canada!!! :)
