If they aren't asking you, just be forward and let them know that you are looking for something that offers you more than your current position, but until you find something you can't afford to jeopardize your livelihood. They should understand....

I've worked in HR for years. The best thing you can do it just make sure all the gaps are covered. And if you've had an periods where you've been chilling out doing nothing, write something like..you traveled. If you've never had a job before, you just need to include things like, good with people because.... good at time management because...and relate it to real life situations in the skills part of your Resume.... have you ever done any volunteer work...odd jobs for neighbours or family? That's employment, just not paid.

I am a former chef and live in Canada, to work here you must be a citizen or have a work permit, and here we office were you can search the various jobs available, and the HRDC site is available on the internet to look at to.

Plus there is a card need for tax reasons, it is called a Social Insurance number, this tells the employer how to work the deductions for you payroll. Unless you have documentation and a SIN card working here is hard to find and not legal. If you come to live with family you can get one in time, it takes 8-12 weeks after applying and paying the fee to get one, but unless you have a visa number to put on the document, then I am sorry you will not be granted a card.
