Full Time Job Search

Reginald Said:

about how many people apply to each full-time job that is posted online (on job search websites)?

We Answered:

It varies vastly depending on the job. The lower level or more vague the job desciption, the more applicants. You also will get more applicants from postings on major sites (monster, hotjobs, etc.) than niche sites.

For low level positions, usually a few hundred applicants. High level roles can be as few as 20.

In the past few months, however, I have seen the number of applicants increase 4 or 5 fold.

How do I a full-time (well paid Job) without College degree?

We Answered:

You will have to work your way up from the bottom at a company that has potential to make a good living. Being a receptionist somewhere could get your foot in the door. Such as maybe a Mortgage Company, a bank teller, etc. Other than that, the only thing to make a fast buck is probably bartending or something

Audrey Said:

If a person applies for a federal or state government job, but has really bad credit..is it a waste of time?

We Answered:

Yes, it's worth the time to apply for federal jobs. Your credit doesn't matter for most of them, but when it comes time to fill out your background investigation form, it matters very much that you tell the truth about your finances. For some sensitive positions, your credit will matter, because your financial situation can make you vulnerable to bribery, so until you're more financially stable, you might want to put that dream of being a secret service or CIA agent on the shelf, but for hundreds of other jobs, it won't matter.

Kelly Said:

Legal? Is unemployment comp available for an employee who has a full time job changed to 4 days instead?

We Answered:

In which state do you work? There are 50 states and 50 sets of rules.

All I can give you is basic, non-specific information. There is nothing illegal about reducing your hours. You are working 4 days instead of 5 now -- use that extra day off to search for new jobs if you want to. Your UI benefits will probably pay 50% of your full time salary (but without knowing in which state you're filing......) up to a maximum of $....(can't say without knowing your state).

You are currently earning 4/5 of your prior salary, correct? That's a lot more than 1/2 of your prior salary.

If you quit, you may not get UI benefits, but even if you do, they won't come close to what you're earning even on a 4 day week.

Job searching for Full time work.?

We Answered:

Yes, I would say look for an internship ASAP, if you will be graduating in May 2010. There are two reasons. Yes, you are correct that a lot of qualified, experienced people in the finance industry are out of work right now, which makes it harder for new graduates to find jobs. And, you feel that you don't have enough experience. This will give you the opportunity to gain more experience, and feel comfortable with your skills.

Brandon Said:

How do you search for another job while working full time?

We Answered:

Arrange for interviews on off days, weekends or after office hours. If that is not possible apply for leave.
Do not tell anyone in the office about your plans so that there is a low risk of leaks on your plans.
Provide work reference only when you are likely to be offered the post and that you are likely to get a good reference. If you have worked with more than one employer, offer a work reference from other employers if you with them not too long ago.
