Job search in Hospitality?We Answered:
Here are some links I use all the time. 3 are from CMAA which is for private clubs. I used the direct links to the job sites but check out the rest of the site. It has lots of information. The fourth is world wide.Charlie Said:
Can someone describe to me the job duties of a hospitality aide at a hospital? We Answered:
Smile, wash your hands after each patient, be helpful, ask when in doubt, follow directions. They probably have some uniform or dress code. Do not be late.If you are attentive to your duties and do them carefully, what problem could there be? Must be a lot of helping and guiding visitors . Obey doctors and nurses orders, but if doctor says 'do this' you must or should explain politely to nurse (sometimes). This detail crops up occasionally and calls for good judgment about what to do, not an argument, may involve others...
You may take patients to X-ray or Lab or Cardiology, or wherever. Hospital map and/or familiarity. May help distributing meals, stuff like that. Sometimes you might work for hospital administrators. Or for some special functions like teaching seminar open to public.
Hospitality is about helping people, patients, visitors, and sometimes the staff (as above).
Polite and helpful and neat is a big plus at interview. Look at people when speaking and use proper names, or at least title 'Nurse' or 'Doctor' if at all possible.
Do not abandon visiting doctor until he gets exactly to where he is supposed to go. Check with yourself to see if each job is finished from point of view of person helped, especially older nurses and visiting doctors. "Do you need anything else, doctor (nurse, sir, whatever}?" Learn where to find what is needed, especially by asking your group leader or at the nurses desk. You may go on various supply errands. No dilly-dallying is impressive, and sometimes they want you to get it immediately!
Hopefully you will impress the interviewer. Drive carefully with frail patients in wheelchair or on gurney. Look where you are going. Be completely trustworthy about all things, and never, never, never, never discuss patients or private matters of any kind. The slightest mistake on the latter, even at home, could mean no job instantly.
You may man an information booth with experience. The hospital phone directory is necessary (and private) to your work. You may wear a pager. Learn how to use the phone system.
Hospital business starts and stops at the door, most especially the mention of names or private information.
See? I have done this without mentioning any names. That is the biggest and foremost rule for your job and one of the First Three for all others there.
Treat elders respectfully. Beware of crossing the Nurse Supervisor or some visiting doctor.
If the Hospital Administrator likes you, there could be some kind of career ladder.
Make sure you understand the exact name and spelling of what you have been sent for (sometimes necessary).
No slip ups, EVER. Because you printed this all out and put it in your wallet, yes? Your cell phone stays in your purse.
Rule Two: No personal business on hospital telephone. Be watchful for parking lot predators when leaving. No dilly-dally, unlock car, get in, shut and lock door and GO. Ask for Security Guard escort late at night or in dark. If there are loiterers visible, go back for that.
