Since you don't like subways, I ruled out any neighborhoods you would have to travel on a subway to get to. It leaves really just three areas that would be good for your salary and are quite safe.

Living anywhere near Yonge and Bloor would be expensive, even with getting a roommate. So the places would be Greektown (Danforth), and Lakeshore (Etobicoke), and Highpark.

Greektown, despite the name isn't full of Greeks, although there is alot. It's one of the safest placest in Toronto, and many residents leave their doors unlocked at night. 1 bedroom apartment would be $1000.

Lakeshore, you would have to take one street car to get there, but it's got the lowest rent at $800. It can be "grimey" at times, but is still very safe.

Highpark is probably the "nicest" area of the three, also a streetcar away from Yonge and Bloor, takes maybe 10 minutes to get there. A one bedroom is about $1000.

All these places aren't far from Yonge and Bloor. Well Lakeshore is, but the way the streetcar system works, it'll only be a 15 minute ride.

Under the circumstances the best thing you can do is issue a Writ of Seizure and Sale of Lands at the small claims court, and file it with the sheriff in the jurisdiction that he owns the house. This will prevent him from selling the house, obtaining financing, etc. without paying you in full including daily interest.

Seizure of a car by the sheriff is usually not cost effective. The sheriff will require a deposit of between $1000.00 -$3,000.00, plus a number of searches before they will seize and sell a car.

You need to go to a community college or school and talk to a counsellor about your experience and if it is considered equal to Canadian standards. I have talked to many immigrants from India that are Engineers in their country but can't work here because they are under qualified. You may need to upgrade some your education in some areas or you may need to change fields. Also talk to people in the business. If you are wanting to get into investing management then you will probably require more education and will have to pass an exam the Canadian Association of Investment Bankers will also have info for you
