Uneployment Benefits in Austin, TX?

We Answered:

I'm fortunate that when I had to apply, I didn't have any problems with them not contacting me, but that my application got contested from the company that "layed" me off (our division was completely closed-no where for us to go in the company and we got severenced). I did have my ducks in a row and it got cleared up, but I agree with the other person that you need to go to their offices IN PERSON and talk to them. Good luck!

Relocation to Austin, TX. tips?

We Answered:

All I can say is- why? You don't have a high school diploma. You don't have the luxury of choosing where you can work and live. Sorry it's just the truth. Austin is a very high tech city and if you can't compete for a job you are in risk of becoming one of the street urchins who live on 6th street.

Why are people so mean to the homeless? ?

We Answered:

Wow I have to thank you all for your stories. I myself could never fathom being homeless even though I grew up with relatively little compared to others. This is one of the few moments in life I have felt lucky because both my Mother and Father grew up poor on farms with 14 and 11 siblings, apiece, respectively (Yeah, talk about no cable!!) But my point is that sometimes being poor makes your soul richer because even if I was a drug addled meth user who lost everything, one of the hundreds related to me would feed me, clothe me, love me, even if I stunk of death. They would bring me to life.
To be honest I don't always give change because I hardly ever carry cash but no matter how frightened or appalled I am I always look them in the eye and smile. Somehow that's the one thing you can do for someone that lets them know they are still one of us, just living under different circumstances.
