Moving to Boston, apartment/job information? We Answered:
Quincy is a great city to live/reside. When you live in Massachusetts, there are two transportation: your own vehicle or the MBTA. I would suggest you buy a Charlie Card and then you would be able to commute around Boston. Some good cities to live are:Quincy(my favorite), Braintree, and Newton. All those cities provide cheap rent.Chad Said:
Part-Time Job Seeking 18 Year Old Male?We Answered:
Your college should be able to help you find a part-time job. Most schools have an office that helps students find employment or at least a job board. You may be able to find a paid internship in your field.Nina Said:
I want to do a bookkeeping job?We Answered:
If the job requirements stated that you need experience in quick books, you probably do. However there are many other bookkeeping programs and I am sure you would be trained in their type of books.Adam Said:
How do I find a recruiter in Boston? We Answered:
There are many recruiters for every field in every region of the country... the best way to find one that's right for you/your husband would be to start by doing a job search and see which firms are offering job listings in that category. Chances are they'll have additional jobs to fill from multiple employers and can help find the right fit.Below is a link to a job search on http://www.Indeed.com - this search is limited to only jobs posted by recruiters for customer service in the Boston area. A good place to start. (There are more than 3000 jobs listed, by recruiters, right now within 25 miles of Boston.)
Good luck.

I am 22 and moving to Boston what is a good neighborhood to search for roomates? We Answered:
Apologies to start... this is going to be a long answer.Craigslist Boston is a good place to look to see what areas are affordable. Below is the link to the roommate section. Craigslist ads sometimes can give you a good idea of the age ranges of people in those areas. (When they list them.) You'll also want to be careful and fully investigate any offers there. Normal precautionary procedures. http://boston.craigslist.org/roo/
Usually you'll find a lot of roommates and 20 somethings in the areas near colleges. Brighton, Allston, Boston:Kenmore/Fenway, Arlington, Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Newton, East Waltham, Malden/Melrose, Everett, etc...
If there is a college nearby, you'll find a majority of people your age. College areas are usually affordable with roommates. But keep in mind that they also can have a lot of turnover every time Spring and Fall semesters end. Just something to keep in mind and something you'll want to ask about when inquiring about apartments and new roommates. The cost of living is sometimes higher as shops are charging the college kids for convenience.
Anywhere you look, map it first. If you have any questions on specific towns or areas, feel free to ask. People here will let you know. If you want T accessible and affordable then be willing to look outside of the city on the outskirts. Keep in mind you also will run into a lot of places where the rent is 800 or less but that might not include utilities. For work: Copley is Green Line accessible. Any of the MBTA train stops can get you to the Green Line. But you might want to look at the MBTA's interactive map to get an idea of the towns/cities and especially the ones on the green line. http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/s…
Beacon Hill is extremely expensive. Between Copley and Beacon Hill is the Rodeo Drive of Boston called Newbury St. The people who are in their 20s living in Beacon Hill usually have a high income or are couples with more than one income. The cost of living in that area (and a good part of Copley area) is higher than the rest of Boston. It's also a tourist destination that makes it more expensive. While the apartment itself might be affordable, the cost of living in that area might not be.
In regard to Boston be careful with Southie/South Boston, Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, and JP (Jamaica Plain). Those areas are cheap because some parts have a high crime rate. JP is hit or miss. There are some really nice sections over by the Jamaica Way/Chestnut Hill area that are good places. Again with that the cost of living is increased, but it's not too bad. The flip side is that there are some other high crime areas over by Washington St and along the MBTA Orange Line. Investigate which area first. West Roxbury is not in, or next to Roxbury and is a good area but it's near the JP/Chestnut Hill area so the cost of living will probably be slightly more than other areas.
You're from out of state. There are several locals, even some who live in these areas, who will tell you the same: When looking in Boston avoid the areas in and around the majority of Blue Hill Ave. and all of Codman Square. Especially Codman Square. It's very cheap there and T accessible so it might look very appealing to you. - The reason to avoid it should be self explanatory. If it is not then take a look here to see where the most crimes are happening: http://www.boston-online.com/crime/ Keep in mind that the map is for the entire year. But below it lists recent crimes. You'll notice that every place has crime now and then but the higher crime areas will be repeatedly listed.
There are parts of Cambridge that are okay, but not all of Cambridge is not safe. You'll have to scrutinize any place in Cambridge. Some of parts are very safe during the day but not at night, others especially late at night. For the safe parts: not all are affordable. That varies from area to area. Rindge Ave. & Alewife happens to be one of the higher crime areas that is not considered to be safe. But on the same hand, that area is not even close to being as dangerous as Codman Square. So take everything into consideration. Are you going to be working late nights? If so, you might not want North Cambridge as your first choice of places to live. - In all fairness Cambridge is another hit or miss location like JP.
Lastly: No matter what city or town you choose there will always be good and bad parts. Your best bet will be to ask here about the area you're considering. Also give credit to those who have lived in those areas as they will be able to give you the best idea of what it's like.
The better question would be:
I'm moving to Boston: What are the towns, cities, and respective neighborhoods, that are close to Boston and MBTA accessible that I should avoid?
Which ones are good but expensive to live in?
It's easier to narrow down and locate a place when you know *not* what to look for. ;)
Good luck in your search!

Is Boston a liberal city?We Answered:
People there, like all of New England are very independent minded, they think for themselves and form their own opinions, they aren't just spoon fed what to think and say at mammoth church/school/cult complexes. They are probably more liberal and accepting in general, to a large extent very well educated, but of course there are still some people that live in ignorance and fear of anything a little different than themselves, but at least there is only some of that, not rampant and widespread like in all the RED states.
