Constance Said:

What is the best option for a 1 month stay in Melbourne?

We Answered:

It really depends on you circumstances.

But the options are:

Serviced Apartments - Short term let usually with facilities. These vary from 3 to 5 star. No leases are required to be signed and commitments can be from 2-3 days to several months.

Hostels - Usually on a per bed basis, so can work out deceptively expensive and of a poorer standard.

Hotels - Covers everything from 2 - 5 star, large to small budget hotels. Some of the last minute options have free inclusions like breakfasts and use of facilities.

Family Houses - You loose some independence and may get to stay with folks you like or don't like. Commitments are usually in 4 week blocks.

Here's a great site. Use the section which says:

"Sort by Name | Type | Location | Price" to reveal a filter which identifies the options. Here's some sample links:

Neil Said:

Is it easy getting a job in Melbourne?

We Answered:

Melbourne is a tough place to get a job, actually. I don't know about accounting, but when I studied there it seemed that every 3rd person was going into accounting as the surefire way of getting a decent job.

Might be that the market for accountants is saturated. Besides, there are no good apartments there, you'd have to share a house with someone.

On the country side there are seasonal jobs, however, if you'd want to go there. But I've always thought of the Victorian countryside as depressing. Too arid, too ugly.
