In eastern Canada they are building houses and townhouses like crazy still. House values are going up and doing pretty well. We just sold our house here after living in it for 4 years, as it went up almost 40% in value since moving in, and we were moving to another area for work.

If you're looking to stay away from the cold cold, then stay on the east or west coast or in southern Ontario. It's warmer due to the sea/lake effect in the winter.

Also, immigrating to Canada has been getting easier year after year.
