Manchester neighborhoods: areas to live and work.

We Answered:

It's a very big city and unfortunately until they extend the tram system which is currently being discussed, public transport isn't that good. Young areas with good pubs and character - West Didsbury - very nice but also expensive, Withington, Fallowfield (very studenty but also lively), Rusholme is cheap but it is near the city centre and Chorlton is OK. Theres millions of buses to all these areas. Apart from these areas the rest of central Manchester isn't that good and you would have to live in one of the suburbs unless you can afford a city centre apartment.

Can I get temporary, cheap accommodation in London?

We Answered:

1. Join the YHA
2. Book into one of their London hostels (the most suitable location wise) where you can stay in clean, safe friendly accomodation for up to 6 weeks.
As the owners are always local and very friendly (goes with the job) you will find they are a mine of info for helping you to locate good safe accomodation on a permanent basis.

I can't find a job in Manchester?

We Answered:

Many years ago, 1989, the company I worked for, British Aerospace, Military Aircraft Division, was called out on strike to get a 35 hour working week. The strike lasted, I think, 26 weeks. I went and registered with a Temp Agency. The wages weren't good but better than nothing. You get lots of different work experience and it helps to pass the time. Try it, it is always easier to find a job if you're working at something than if you are not.

Manchester neighborhoods: good areas to live and work

We Answered:

Depends what you are looking for. Generally the areas north of the city are cheaper than the southern suburbs. Crumpsall, Bowker Vale and Prestwich are northern places on the 'metrolink' line; if you lived in one of these, you can be in town within 20 minutes. Other cheap areas with easy access to the city are Newton Heath, Moston, Blackley and Failsworth. South of the city is more expensive, except for student areas like Rusholme, or council estates. East Manchester, especially the re-development near the Stadium, is improving. Some parts of Salford are a bit rough, but Swinton, Pendlebury and Agecroft are nice

I am 14 searching for a job...?

We Answered:

You are not going to get hired anywhere. Period. I'm 15 and i've been looking for a saturday job and NOWHERE will take me.
What with the economy and all and loads of adults losing their jobs, there's no reason that they're take a 14 year old over somebody who's experienced etc.

Your best chance is to do what i'm doing and that is to do community work until you're 16 and then apply for a job. That way, you can say that you have work experience outside school :P
