The construction industry here is booming.Ther isn't enough people to fill the jobs,let alone skilled machine operaters.I quarantee if he just arrived in Vancouver and went to the employment office he would be working the next day at the job of his choice.I kid you not. All the Olympic Venues are all under construction now and some are behind schedule.One logging company out here is" Interfor" I believe based on vancouver island. Most of the logging now is around Prince George in the central interiorBut they have offices in Vancouver.Economy on the West coast is booming now as we gear up for tourist season also. My daughter just started a job today at a resort in the community A summer job doing dishes (she is 16) And they are paying her $ 15 per hour.There arn't even enough high school kids to fill the jobs.I am from Ontario originally and I would never move back.B.C. is the Best place in Canada to live.Health care is exceptional .My self and my hubby work these types of seasonal jobs then live on unemployment in the winter.In ten years we bought a house on 2 acres with a view of the Pacific Ocean.2 more yrs it will be paid off.We paid 84 thousand and we have it for sale now at 318 thou.And we have had lots of offers >Every one seems to want to live in BC. For good reason.It's beautiful like a world park.

We Answered:

As self-employed or small business owner, you would not be eligible for unemployment compensation for the summer months. You can either plan ahead for 2 months of summer vacation, or take in other children for the summer. A summer mini-daycamp for working parents would be a boon to them while school is out for summer! You could end up doing your best business over the summer.

And that's what being self-employed is all about. Use your imagination and provide services people NEED!
