Job Search Retail

Troy Said:

What should I do in my job search?

We Answered:

tang, I first majored in French and Philosophy in school...and then I realized that I would be philosophizing on a street corner in Paris with a hat to collect change. The point being...language alone is not enough to get a job. HAve you considered some additional schooling? Perhaps 1 1/2 years of teaching certification? Another option is the hospitality industry...sometimes i hire someone just because they speak spanish, and then train them to cook, or whatever else. Your abiltiy to speak spanish makes you a great commodity for my industry. Perhaps consider taking a certification in food and beverage management...a class with a test at the end to certify you. It qualifies you for food and beverage director. You can get a job in any hotel, and make better than an executive chef. i myself am going to take that course, since executive chef is really the highest I can go. Either way, life is too short to do soemthing you hate, and retail is definitely one step below hospitality! You guys get no respect, and I don;t blame you for wanting something better, since you already went to school. Well, good luck, and if you need additional info on anything, email me.

I need job, but im 15 does anyone know of a website where you can search for jobs by age? want retail/sales!!!

We Answered:

Finding a job at 15 is tough! 16 is usually the age that most employers will start looking at you. Due to safety liabilities you cannot operate alot of equipment and also because of child labor laws there are only certain hours that you can usually work. Employers also look at the fact that you are 15 and reliable transportation could be an issue.

McDonald's does hire 15 year olds. However, you may be better off starting your own babysitting service, lawn service, or even washing and detailing cars in your neighborhood.

It sounds like you are interested in clothes/fashion. Have you thought about perhaps starting a consignment shop in your garage that is open about 2 days a month? Other teens would have you sell their unwanted clothes and you could charge them a percentage....(this is on the same line as a garage sale).

Adults are so busy these days, look around your neighborhood and see what it is missing and maybe you can fill that need!

Don't forget to check local zoning and licensing laws before you start!

There is always something people are to busy to do themselves and are willing to pay someone else to do it for them!

Please be careful going onto web sites that are looking for young teenage workers-there are alot of sick people out there who would love to take advantage of you....

Good Luck!

Job search?

We Answered:

Millions of people go through this, and it's sad. It's really hard sometimes due to the economy or what your area is going through. I really want to recommend a few ideas..One thing, go to your local employment office and try to seek assistance finding a job. Log onto monster.com if you have not yet and post your resume' and also look for employers in your area hiring. Also check out craigslist.org sometimes people looking for employees post there as well, doesn't hurt to check.
Next thing you can do is go to a college in your area and see about taking a course toward a career that you can do that has a lot of jobs. Nurses, EMT's, etc and you can become an LVN within 2 years, also an EMT within a year or two, there are quite a few other jobs.. You can also get assistance at some colleges to pay for your education and even get enough money to cover some of your home expenses.

Also, for a job while you are searching there are a couple of online jobs you can most likely get http://liveops.com and http://workathomeagents.com they hire a lot for people to work at home and you can pretty much get a job easy at either one of them as long as you have a pleasing voice and a computer with internet access.

Good luck!

What is the best time of year to search for retail management jobs?

We Answered:

Sorry to disagree with previous answer; the Christmas season is the worst because there are SO MANY people looking for temporary jobs then--as young people do around the end of the school year...

The best two times are early January to early February when the Christmas help has gone and sales are in progress; and the late September early October season, when stores add Christmas help ahead of time.

Remember, management level employment and looking for a permanent job are different than looking for a temp job in retail as a sales person.

JOB SEARCH IN TEXTILES/RETAIL!? HELP PLEASE?

We Answered:

If you know the name of the company try their website as some companies offer jobs there as opposed to putting them on jobsearch sites.
Good luck with it.
