Marian Said:

What does it mean to be bondable in Canada?

We Answered:

Different bonding companies have different bonding criteria. Basically, it is insurance on the employee that they are honest and that they will be covered under any insurance policies that they company has.

It also depends on if the company is just asking, "Are you bondable?" or if they are actually going to a bonding company to be bonded.

If you have no criminal record then you should be able to answer honestly, "Yes" and they may not actually check. If they are actually bonding you, ask the company to see if you will qualify. Also, some bonding companies, depending on the job requirements, will require credit reports as well and may not bond a person if their credit rating is too low.

Job Opportunities in Canada?

We Answered:

I'm not sure about Montreal but my parents and I are immigrants in Toronto. My dad is a mechanical engineer and my mother was a pharmacist. Both found it very difficult to find the same quality of jobs they had at home. Canadians are pretty welcoming to foreigners and many have equal opportunity hiring policies but it is very evident that immigrants get paid considerably less than their Canadian educated counterparts because they are willing to work for less. It is definitely very possible to find employment in your same field but unless you find a very good employer, unfortunately as an immigrant you will probably be paid less.

There are many great employment programs that train foreign educated people so they are more prepared for jobs here in Canada. My mother was trained for free as a pharmaceutical technician and the government sibsidized her placement at her first employer where she still works.
