What about some clothing stores? Go to some websites for stores that are in your area and look in their employment section to see if that particular store is hiring. But sometimes the stores dont keep the website updated. So just go into a store ask for a manager and ask the manager if you can fill out an application. 9 times out of 10 even if they arent hiring they will let you fill out an application, and keep the application on file for when they are hiring. If you are specialized in a certain field, you can get some information about median salaries for that occupation in different states. IE. if you are a nurse, you can find out what average pay rate is in each state for RN's and LPN's, what the benefits are, etc.

I checked Orbitz and ITA to see what's available, and it's outrageously expensive--$600+. Instead, I think you'll do better with a last-minute package specialist such as http://www.site59.com because it's often cheaper to bundle air+car or air+hotel for last-minute travel. For example, they show PDX-ANC air+car at $420 with tax included. This is outstanding considering it's nonstop flights on Alaska Airlines, +2 days rental from Hertz for a compact car.

Also check student sites http://www.statravel.com and http://www.studentuniverse.com and http://www.travelcuts.com -- they might have something cheaper on the airfare.
