Before he does anything, he needs to make sure he's eligible for a work visa.

My mom is from Ireland but she married my dad to stay in the US so he probably will need to work out a solution for that.

My advice: start networking! Networking is huge. Build a resume, not matter how 'inexperienced', and post it on all of the major job sites. I find almost all of my jobs on www.indeed.com. I used to live in germany and most all of my employers found me through monsterjobs too.

A big help will be to get a resume book from a local library and make sure he designs a nice one. The resume is the first thing people notice of course :)
