Media Job Search

Regina Said:

are career/job search websites considered "social media"?

We Answered:

Sites who's only purpose it is to find jobs are not considered social media, however sites like LinkedIn which is designed to help you keep in touch with your current and former co-workers (and those connections could help you get a job later) would be considered social media by most people.

Paul Said:

I would like to get a part time job in the media/advertising/event mgmt industry. Where can I search for them?

We Answered:

Newspapers always have vacancies. Its better to contact directly to the newspaper's advertising department.
In event management, you can enroll yourself with the event management companies; whenever they have any event they'll call you. You can find event management companies in the local newspapers ads, yellow pages or on the net through search.
If you have good writing skills you can get a copy writer's job, this kind of jobs are available on part time basis or you can work from home. Now a days web content writers are much in demand. you can also try in this field.
Marketing or space sell jobs are always available, media companies always seek for good persons to join in their team, also as a part timer.
If you have a space for counter then you can take classified advertisements agency, and you can book ads in your time but there should be on regular basis and for 3 or 4 hours scheduled time should be there; so clients can find you at that time, after scheduled hours you can also be contacted by mobile if you like to. Newspapers provide classified counters to interested agencies/persons. In this job you do not have to invest much, if you do not want to give credit your clients.

Career or Job ideas in the Media Industry?

We Answered:

Wow - that's great. Didn't realize someone else in my network freelanced. I am a freelance writer, though. I can see that you're an editor. Have you considered advertising? Or, perhaps, working with a non-profit agency that needs to create PSA's? That's what some of the editors I know are doing. I've been also looking for work myself, so I hear ya.
It really depends which job market you're in. But yeah, you should also keep your eye out for post-production calls, a lot of documentarians that haven't entered into production yet, are always looking for editors. good luck.
