What should I do if I have been given a very unstable, trial basis job? Should I denounce my benefits?

We Answered:

Hang on to the temporary job as long as possible. It is income and better than being on the dole. If you loose the job or are not successful, you can "fall back" on the Jobseeker's and Housing benefits. If the temporary job interferes with getting on with your schooling, drop it like a hot potato--the schooling is more important because it allow you to have permanent income in the future. You will probably not be hired for an administration job once employers find out that you will be dedicating time to schooling or moving--they want someone permanent.

Keep the easier job and hope it takes you through September, at which time you can find something else that works with your school schedule to pay off back debt.

Does the NHS care about a previous cannabis caution when applying for a job?

We Answered:

You would need an enhanced CRB check for the kind of work you are considering this does not just show up on your criminal record but other interactions with the police such as you have been involved in which are recorded on local police intelligence files may.

Help with online job application?

We Answered:

Disregard the other poster's comment about your grammar- your english is excellent and certainly better than most of the questions on here! You might use shorter sentences though, break them up where you have got full-stops at the moment. Check your wording for the application form by typing it up in MS Word first -this will show up any spelling or punctuation and make suggestions for you.

Mention your numeracy and literacy tests (Well Done! btw) and say (if they have asked for GCSEs) that you will take English and Maths GCSE when you get the chance. The maths course is on cdrom and you can take the exams when you are ready, as a private student - you don't need a college to agree for this although where you are doing art might let you sit the exams with them.

You have had 'proper' education -just not the exam from the end of the course, which is soon solved see above. You have had work experience -looking after your mum all those years, that was a big responsibility. Your enthusiasm for their products is very good too, make sure you write about that in your hobbies and interests.

Quickest way to find eating disorder departments in London hospitals??

We Answered:

The Eating Disorders Association would probably have this information www.edauk.com and I would have thought that somewhere like the Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill which has a large mental health facility would be a good place to start www.slam.nhs.uk

What is the best undergraduate school you think I could get in?

We Answered:

Hello!

You seem like a very competitive candidate, and I want to say congratulations for doing so well in high school! Not a lot of people can say that they've done everything you have. You're definitely going to get into a good school, and some good schools will even give you a lot of money to go there because you have such a good resume.

Columbia is a bit of a reach, but it's a reach for everyone. If you were to get your SAT scores up over 2000, you would have a better shot, but right now, I'm not quite sure.

However, NYU, also right in the city, like Columbia, is a very good school and you are above average for the typical accepted student there.

GW, a very good school, has a strong journalism program and I would say you have a very strong chance at getting in there. Georgetown, also a school in D.C., has a good journalism program, and while this is a very tough school, I think you definitely have a shot there.

Another great city is Boston. Northeastern is a great school and you could definitely get in there. You might enjoy the co-op because it would give you valuable experience that not many journalists straight out of college can say they have. Also in Boston is Emerson, another school you could definitely get into, and because it is a school specialized in communications and performing arts, has a very, very strong journalism program. The only problem with Emerson is that you won't get the typical college experience with football games and the like. However, this is a plus for some people, so it all depends on you! Boston University is a great school with a good journalism program. It's not as good as Northeastern, but it is still a very good school. Boston College is sort of the Boston equivalent of Georgetown, tough but I'd say you have a shot. It's a good college, so all of its programs are strong, including journalism.

Good luck!

Desperate nurse looking for job!?

We Answered:

Perhaps you could try to find your two years experience elsewhere; like a nursing home, or clinic, or private home for the elderly. I know that some of these jobs will entail little more than cleaning soiled beds but it will get you your two years for the agency, and who knows, it may even lead to something better!
