People First Job Search

Theresa Said:

First time job search. Need interview advice!!!?

We Answered:

Just relax, and pay attention. Job searching isn't as easy as people say it is. When you are 19 years old, and job searching, you have to take whatever comes to you. Most employers don't care who they interview and hire. You may be the perfect person for them, and they take a single look at you. It took 2 years for someone to hire me. Supermarkets and restaurants have been known to be the worst places, and I believe it from past experience.

Give it a try, and go in for the interviews. Make sure you thank the managers for their time.

Doris Said:

Isn't it just corporate propaganda to tell people that they should not quit a job?

We Answered:

Not necessarily, since some people rely on their jobs to pay their bills, and do not have enough saved up to go a few months while they look for a new job. But really, it all depends on what you do for a living...The higher up you are, the longer it will take to find another job, since those types of employers tend to be more picky. If you work in fast food, you could probably find another job within 2 weeks, without putting out a whole lot of effort. If you have a lot of money saved up, and can afford to go 6 months without working, than it doesn't really matter whether you stay at your job before finding a new one or not. It also depends on your schedule, it is possible to go for interviews before or after work, although this may not always be possible. If you work shift work and have your days off during the week, it is much easier to find another job while still employed.
