Portland Job Search

Mae Said:

I need a summer job( I'm 15) but a real job full time or part time in portland .ASAP?

We Answered:

Well, since you're under 18 you can only work a maximum of 8 hours. I've been just going onto every stores website I live by and applying there. For the online applications, if there's an additional comments box you should write a quick note about your extracurricular activities and a little about yourself and then put down your references hopefully you have some because that would help out a lot. Try to avoid putting family members down, they aren't helpful since we all know they'll say good things about you. Of course, if you have family members with a different last name that you've babysat for or something that could always help. It's kind of cheating, but hey they'll never know. Also, it's very impressive if you have a resume since you're 15 they wouldn't really expect one from you. Just google resumes for teenagers and you're bound to come across something very helpful teaching you how to make one. They only need to be one page so it shouldn't be too difficult. Also, after you apply to a job call in a day or 2 after saying you applied and wanted to know if they're hiring anytime soon because you're really interested and say you'd love to work there. Sucking up does work in some cases! Good luck!

Hospital Job in Portland, OR?

We Answered:

I would suggest that you check into Shriners Hospital for Children - Portland Oregon. There you might get a clerical job with some nursing assisting where you can learn more about the field. Also, there you may find them willing to work with you to help you get your Nursing degree.

I hope this helps.

Where is the best place in Portland to job search?

We Answered:

In my experience, the only worthwhile places to job-hunt around here are at the employment department (lots of good resources) and on Oregonlive.com (Oregonian). I have tried a ridiculous number of other job search engines, seen scams on Monster.com, and keep coming back to these 2 resources. Go to your nearest employment division office and ask for some referrals. You can also use this program called iMatch which will match your skills with jobs. If you have experience in customer service, collections, and/or a call center, there are several large call centers around including Netflix, Google, and Yahoo. If you're in a hurry to get working, temp agencies can also be a lifesaver. Good luck.

Renee Said:

Is Portland the right city for me? (Single/M/24 approaching graduation)?

We Answered:

Portland has a vibrant downtown with great night life and plenty of culture. There are many upscale neighborhoods with a relatively low crime rate. There is a good public transportation system. If you live close to MAX you won't need a car. It does rain a lot. There are a lot of high tech firms. There are plenty of neighborhoods upscale to cool old neighborhoods with funky little cafes and fresh healthy grocery stores, that are walkable and safe. On points 1,2 and 4 the advantage definitely goes to Portland, On job opportunities it's probably a draw between Portland and Seattle.
