Advice on emigrating to Australia

We Answered:

I have accepted a job and we are just waiting to sort out our house in the UK before moving to Sydney. The company I am joining is paying for pretty much everything - visas (took approx. 7 weeks using a migration agent engaged by my new company), flights, removal costs......

I found that there is some excellent ex-pat forums, which are extremely helpful. I also know of a recruitment agency based in the UK that recruits for Australian employers.

If you don't want the hassle and anxiety of completing the application, etc. yourself, I would recommend trying to get a company to sponsor you. They will almost always do everything (and pay for it) needed to get you over. Good Luck.

Stand firm. You are your own person, although still under their roofs, you still can make choices for yourself. Make sure you make good choices and you cant lose. I would say to keep your grades good, do all you can to be your best and then you know you did your best. You already play rugby at school, so you are doing what he wants, just not how he wants you to do it. I would speak to your mom, telling her that you have told him you don't want this or that. And maybe she can be on your side. She has to know what you are thinking though to be on your side. And then stand firm with dad, and eventually they will respect your choices as long as they are good ones.

Tell them now, going off will only compound the communication problem. Talking calmly and directly is the key.
