Search Online Jobs

Earl Said:

Is it a good idea to apply for jobs over the weekend using those online job search engines or should I wait?

We Answered:

I think they're fine to use.

If you are looking to earn maybe $200 or so per week part time while looking for a permanent job I've found this is good for that. You won't make thousands like they say but you can make $200 or so per week part time.

Jimmie Said:

I need a job working the night shift, any good tips for doing an online job search for 3rd shift?

We Answered:

I don't know of any sites that are strictly for third shift positions though I do think http:/snagajob.com has a filter for the shift.

I would suggest that when you are doing a search in the search engines that you should check the option to search in the text of the ad as well as the job title. You should also do separate searches for the terms "3rd", "Third" and also for "shift" since the assumption is that most jobs are 1st shift and the only times it would be used is to indicate a variation from the norm.

Where can I search for jobs online?

We Answered:

Are you looking for "online jobs" or just a place online to search for jobs? If you are looking for regular jobs, you already listed the best places to look. You could also look for the type of work you want and just start calling places in your area to see if they are hiring.

Or if you are looking for online jobs, you could try affiliate marketing. You can go to http://wealthyaffiliatedreviewed.weebly.… for more information on where I started if you want. It is a great site that teaches you everything you need to know. It is a JOB so it does take some hard WORK, but if you try hard then the payouts are really good. It might not be for everyone, but if you want to give it a try (even as a side job), then you won't regret it.

Again, I'm not really sure what you are looking for, so I can't offer specific advice. Good luck on finding a job of some sort though!

Stephen Said:

I have been unsuccesful on online search for jobs,which do you think is the best website ?

We Answered:

It would be helpful to know what kind of job you are looking for and how much education and experience you have. Since I don't know, this is a very general answer.

Employers aren't apt to be very proactive. Currently, they are "buying," so it's not their job. You are "selling" - so being proactive is YOUR job. You are trying to close the sale. If the job market in the U.S. changes, as it is supposed to in the next few years, they may be forced to become more proactive. But, we aren't there yet...

These 3 Websites are the best good sources of jobs:

* Craigslist - http://www.craigslist.org/

In 2006, Craigslist was the site mentioned most often as the Website people used to successfully find a job. Twice as often as Monster, HotJobs, and CareerBuilder combined!

Craigslist is a giant online classified ads site, organized into hundreds of small sites by location. Pick your state or city from the lists on the right side of the home pages. They have both jobs and "gigs" (which are short term jobs). You can browse through what's available or do a search.

Since Craigslist is free for employers to post in all but 7 of their 400 sites, you'll find junk postings, so be careful. But, I interviewed people who've found work at Verizon as well as at small and mid-sized companies. For help using Craigslist, see this guide to using Craigslist to find a job - http://www.job-hunt.org/onlinejobsearchg…

* Indeed - http://www.indeed.com

As others have indicated, Indeed is an excellent site. It's a "job aggregator" which collects jobs off big job sites (like Monster, HotJobs, Dice, CareerBuilder, etc. but NOT Craigslist) as well as many other smaller sites and even employer Websites. So, it's a great place to do one search that covers more Websites and employers than you would think of yourself.

* Job-Hunt.org - http://www.job-hunt.org/

With over 8,700 links to employers and career resources, organized by state or specialty, Job-Hunt will help you identify possible employers and also job search networking and local support groups to help you with your networking.

For each state, Job-Hunt links to nearly 150 local resources and employers:

- - local job search support groups
- - local job sites and online classifieds
- - state and local governments
- - colleges and universities
- - public school districts
- - banks and financial companies
- - internet and technology companies
- - medical, biotech, and pharma companies
- - many other employers

Customize your resume and cover letter to each opportunity - highlight experience and education you have that fits their requirements. After you apply for a job on a job site, follow up. Call or stop by to see if they have any questions about you, and what the next steps in the process are. Be politely, relentlessly persistent.

Networking, BTW, is THE answer given most often the last 10 years when I've asked people how they got a job. Friend of a friend is hired. More than 90% of the time. If you want employers to be proactive, put yourself "out there" more in associations and other networking situations so that potential employers can notice you.

Good luck with your job search!
