Accountancy Work Experience

Brandon Said:

How do I find a job in accountancy in Londond with little experience?

We Answered:

you should be ok, my previous fd was from denmark and he got equivilancy qualifications here. you need to contact ACCA and CEMA and see if they will offer you exemptions and then you cn go for financial controller type jobs.

Brian Said:

What should i do for work experience?

We Answered:

If possible then work experience in a hospital always looks good on a CV. A lot of places don't let you until you're 18 though in which case somewhere like a care home may be a good option. My friend went to do medicine at uni and she didn't do work experience but volunteered in a care home instead which was similar and looked good on her CV. Work experience isn't actually as big a deal as everyone makes out because the majority of places which accept students don't actually let them do anything productive so I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Volunteer work in a hospital/home especially if you're considering medicine is the best choice in my humble opinion!

Work experience placement ! Girl in office. What to wear ?

We Answered:

Always a shirt, it can be cute though as long as its formal so you avoid the school shirt look! When I worked as a PA I always wore shirts from Dorothy Perkins as they are cheap, well cut and they have some really nice styles. Try to stick to lighter fabrics, especially in the summer and to avoid going the whole hog don't wear a suit jacket, just a nice cardi or v-necked jumper.

That way you look professional but not trying too hard or being too casual!

Is it useful to get AAT qualification before starting ACCA if you haven't got any accountancy experience?

We Answered:

Completing the AAT gives you exeptions from the first year of ACCA, however the AAT usally takes 3 years to complete.

It depends on your circumstances, whether you but be willing to take the risk and do ACCA, or do the AAT over time.

Also, consider how you will get a job to match your current salary. the AAT is a fantasic qualification, but previous experience is also a nessesity when starting a job if you want a salary of £18k+

I did the AAT because it allowed me to learn at the sam time as earning and gaining experience. sometimes though i wish I just sarted with ACCA instead as it would have taken less time

What are the BIG ACCOUNTANCY firms in LONDON?

We Answered:

Hi, are you planning on going into accountancy straight from school or to uni first? I ask because my friends that spent summers working for accountants were half way through uni (ie 21 or 22) when they did it. at the age of 16 you'd spend most of your time doing the jobs nobody else wants. we had our work experience kid clearing out the basement over the summer, poor kid. so you really ought to give it a few years.
if i were you, i'd think about doing something completely different, maybe work in a shop - a wide range of different roles looks better on your cv, shows you have plenty of skills etc. people skills are really important.
if you do accountancy academically then you're already qualified enough on that side - i didn't have any prior accountancy experience when i started my job!!
if it absolutely must be accountancy work, you need to pester your parents and teachers to ask their friends - they'll be your best bet.
hope this helps!
