Work at a local newspaper. You can learn to use the software there and see how advertising comes into play. Learn how to build ads and how the pages are laid out for printing. It is a great place to get a start and usually easy to get a job doing something there!

You would be doing designs for ads, websites, flyers, anything that promotes or advertises. You're basically the creative side of a marketing effort, versus a marketing major, who analyzes the market and the business data.

A good place to get work experience as a student is a web design company or as a freelance designer.

I'd avoid the jeans unless you see plenty of other people wearing them. Let the other employees be your guide, those with more experience. If they are wearing funky jewelry, then do the same. You have to dress for the climate in your agency... some are very conservative in dress while others are quite liberal in dress. Here's what to remember: When in Rome, do what the Romans do.

Sure, I own a company doing this, I just call it Marketing Consultancy, although we don't do TV.

There are many different names - just search google for companies in London or call 118 118.

Unfortunately we don't have any placements next year - we have agreements with universities to supply students from relevant courses for work experience - so perhaps try your university / college, I would have thought they will point you in the right direction
