Catering Work Experience

Patricia Said:

work experience placement needed in catering in southamptonfor year 10 pupil?

We Answered:

We used to have work experience placements at David Lloyd's health club in lordshill where I used to work but it is very difficult to find places now due to insurance and safety issues. There was a council funded group that dealt with the checking of premises prior to a placement being made i think they were actually based at st Marys stadium you could maybe try there or contact the civic centre direct they may have details of businesses there. sorry couldn't be more help I'm now in Spain so have no contact with businesses in Soton anymore. good luck

Darren Said:

with my catering experience where might be the the best place to live & work in thailand?

We Answered:

I think Bangkok. Bangkok is by far the busiest and most populated area of Thailand. If you are looking to open a new nusiness beware that the Thai government is not moving on any proposals right now. I work for the Department of Commercial Services in Bangkok out of the US embassy, so if you want some literature on recent upscale restaurants in the city I can help out. I don't know what kind of work exactly you are looking for, but more information and I can help. As for living, if you are looking for some short-term housing an apartment is the best bet. Lang Suan is nice and near lots of things. If you are looking for a more permanent house, they are building some great subdivisions and the houses go for about 1 million baht ($25,000!) They are very large and brand new. Some come furnished. Good luck!

A work colleague and I have a great idea for a snack bar (UK). What do we do about opening?

We Answered:

The biggest negative is money. All business's cost money to buy and set up. You will not get a business loan unless you have equity in a property, no lenders will loan money unless you can put some of your own up front. I had to remortgage my house to buy a catering business and I had been in business for many years before that.
So sorry, even if you could get free premises which is impossible, you would need start up costs for Insurances, stock, utilities, and equipment.
If you wanted to set up an account with a wholesaler for food you would need a good credit rating and would have to pay in cash for a month or so.
Sorry but it all does come down to money no matter how good your idea is.
