I think the best way for you to get experience in this field is to volunteer for say a criminal justice organisation or in a secure hospital. Many criminal justice organisations take on volunteers to work with offenders who have been released from prison and need help settling back into life 'outside' and helping to prevent them re-offending. This is the kind of work experience required to get into forensic psychology so I'm guessing criminology has quite similar requirements . Without qualifications in the field its unlikely you would receive paid work. Try searching volunteering websites-I live in the north of Scotland and we have heaps of these kinds of volunteering opportunities (with companies like SACRO) so I'm sure the Brighton area would have loads too. Even just volunteering at these places once a week can be enough to gain you entry to further careers or postgraduate study, providing you do well in it, as your 'employers' will often give references.

You could try work experience with the police force, a prison, a court, a solicitors (try a one which specialises in criminal law, a probation officer, a social worker.

I guess it depends on which is easiest to get to in the area you live for which one you would pick
