Employment And Education

1960s and 1970s Question....What were the customs regarding education and employment for women?

We Answered:

In the 60s women were still thought to be just waiting to get married and have a family, and if they were in college it would be for something that would be set aside to be a stay at home mom. At the same time, birth control allowed women to have more say in when to start a family, and many more women went to work. Women were not welcome in 'men's work' areas.

In the 60s, I applied for an entry level job as a file clerk with an insurance company. I took an aptitude test and got the highest score HR had seen. The HR manager told me that she thought I would be bored, and that I wasn't a good fit for the job. When I asked about opportunities within the company, she said that usually women remained in secretarial positions, since managers and agents had to move around and they found that women wouldn't do that if they were married.

When I started work for a company in the 70s, there were 96 men and 4 women in my group. When I left the company, we had two sisters that were engineers - they told me that they could never have done it without 'my' pioneering efforts.

Women in the 60s/70s wanted a chance to have a choice. To work at whatever they wanted if they wanted. That still goes on today.

What are contemp. issues for disabled in Australia in further education/employment & community participation?

We Answered:

Evidently this is a question set for you by a teacher in a course you are doing. You must have course materials, notes, and books to refer to?

Frankly I can't answer it as it seems too broad. As a teacher, I would not have set such a vague question.

Go back to your course materials and seek out the information the teacher is referring to.

whats the cheapest and easiest way to do a full background check on yourself. employment, education,& criminal!?

We Answered:

I have spent the last year and a half researching and testing background check services for a consumer review site (http://www.CompleteReviews.net ) and in that time have run tons of background checks using many different companies. The best site I have found (most accurate, in-depth and least expensive) is http://www.CompleteReviews.net/recommend… The only thing is, standard background checks do not report employment history. For that you would need to spend quite a bit of money using a private investigator. The ussearch site I just linked you to has background checks starting at less than $15 for their basic check but it is pretty thorough.

If you want to email me with more detail on what you need the background check for I may be able to provide more specific recommendations. I have been working with background checks for a long time and have learned a lot. My email is admin@completereviews.net.

Hope that helps!

Is it legal to leave college education off an application for employment?

We Answered:

Unless this is a federal or state job which requires a full disclosure under penalty of law, lying in an application is not illegal. Still, that is not to say that their won't be legal ramifications if she should get the job.

In most cases, people who omit information off off an application are trying to hide negative history, like imprisonment, firings, legal judgments et. etc.

However, in your friends case, she is planning on omitting that she graduated college. Either way, this can be cause for firing if the employer feels the subterfuge to be a matter of poor character. Even if your friend represents herself outstandingly in the role.

The legal theory by which she can be fired is called the "after-acquired evidence" theory where lying about education and experience on a job application is specifically addressed.

So while your friend wont suffer legal ramifications from lying on her resume, her company, should they find out about the lie can fire her. And this company would have legal precedence to protect them in their actions.

The link I provided cites examples and case law.

employment law - education - being told i have to reapply for my own job WHILE IN A CANTEEN?

We Answered:

Jerks are Jerks.
Reapply for the job, or better yet, apply for a better job. It is not against the law to chew out an employee infront of the paying customer. However it is really, really bad form.

Discuss It!
