Events Management Work Experience

Lillie Said:

Events Management?

We Answered:

Events really has two strings to it - Hospitality and Stage/Entertainement and sometimes these do tend to cross over.

For the hospitality events he could look at the Hotel and Leisure Industry. Medium to large Hotels and Hotels Chains will employ Events Co-ordinators and asssociated assistants.

For the Stage/Entertainment style event, large venues such as NEC, Roayl Albert Hall, etc, will employ in house Events staff.

However, his best chance is to look at external events companies that are used by 3rd party commercial clients to run events on their behalf or are contracted by the larger venues or production companies to run the event from start to finish.

Alberto Said:

where should i do my work experience?

We Answered:

You might try sending letters, or calling (in person is best) the various studios and businesses in your area that do what you want to become and offer to be a non-paid aide or apprentice and explain your ambitions and needs. They are much more apt to take you on in an un-paid position, which if they like your work could turn into a paid position and possibly a foot in the door for a career later. Remember that you are looking at a field where not only must you have the skills required, but it is often a matter of who you know. (and who knows you.)

Tracy Said:

Can you help me with Events Management?

We Answered:

I would try as different approach and talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you'll start a web based business or one with a store front. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting your event planning business and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.

You'll need to register the business with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.
