The London Centre for Fashion Studies helps to place their students in work experience programmes with designers so I know they exist. Vivienne Westwood offers work experience in London and so does River Island but I don't know who to contact. You can probably find them online and call to ask for their work experience contact.

Couture retail work isn't too hard to get into, I'm not sure about work experience placements. You are probably best off writing to the HR departments of Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols etc. But also you may want to try the next level down, like John Lewis, and Debenhams, since they're more likely to be receptive. You could ring around the couture shops too.

I wouldnt recommend working in the fashion industry. mine is the voice of experience.

here is a list of reasons why

1) Fashion industry policies are unethical and immoral
2) dont expect to get paid for the hard work you will be expected to put in
3) do you want to work for an industry that exploits slave labour
4) it is full of nepotism, who you know will help
5) people will use you and dump you
6) hours are anti social
7) watch the devil wears prada - a true example
8) fashion rejects on age/status/dress size and does not support mothers
9) it is full of pretense and you will be judged on how you look

it is insipid and will leave you feeling empty as all the people you meet will have values like these and be as shallow as pondwater

i suspect you are worth more
