Film Industry Work Experience

Joann Said:

How to get the work as an artist when one has no any influence in the film industry???

We Answered:

Assuming you have already resided in LA or New York. appear on every celebrities openings, parties, awards ceremonies and clubs to get the basic exposure. go to restaurants that are frequented by producers , directors or any hollywood moguls. You might even have to compromise yourself just to be in the in circle. Failing that apply to every reality series you can get your hands on. It's all about exposure!!

Raymond Said:

do you think its worth it to work for free in the film industry?

We Answered:

there are so many young people trying to get into film, take any way to get a break, up to a point. show them how good you are once or twice and then only work for money.

Interested in a career as a set decorator, need to do work experience in coming months. Ideas?

We Answered:

I've worked with many top set decorators, both in film and T.V, in hollywood as a set dresser and leadman. First and foremost, if you don't live in L.A., it's going to be tougher... Well, as the previous poster noted there ARE many productions lured to Canada through tax incentives, but Americans are not allowed to work there. We of course allow canadians work visas, but I digress. The best way is yes, working for free, as close as possible to where you want to be. In L.A, that's either interning on a film, or simply calling the SDSA( Don't have thier # in front of me, but they are on Cherokee St. in Hollywood, Between Selma and Hollywood Blvd, behind R.C. Vintage Prop rentals) with a list of names of Decs you admire. Stroke a few egos. Buy a decorator lunch and grille them for knowledge. People generally appreciate sharing (some) knowledge, and you'll likely make some new friends. Craigslist is a bust as far as legitimate jobs that will lead to pay, but you may get lucky under gigs. Mandy.com lists current low budge features, as does the ross reports (at newsstands) including fax #s. hope this helps

Christina Said:

How do I get into the film industry, Disney Studio for example?

We Answered:

Internship internship internship
It would provide a wonderful chance to learn on the job and build up your resume, make contacts, etc.
The only problem is 9 times out of 10, even though you don't pay them ....they also don't pay you! You're basically just volunteering- which would be fine except if its a 40 hour a week deal, that doesn't give you much time to find another job that will help pay your rent...

Its a Catch-22, you can't get a real job without experience BUT you can't get "real" experience without a job...

Best of luck to you
