They might have listings of places in your area that do paid internships or part-time jobs that might relate to your area of study. They will also have resources for finding postings. Also you could just do a web search for job sites in your area. I live in NE and might go to NE workforce development site for example.

Would volunteer experience count? You can apply as a volunteer at any local charity or nonprofit. You won't be paid, but they will be happy to have your assistance, and you will gain professional experience during the time, so it's win/win.
