Horse Work Experience

Horse Riding Vs Work Experience?

We Answered:

Which do you want more? To ride or, to learn? That was not meant to be disparaging. I understand that it's a hard choice....but which is most important to you? If you want to learn about animal health, then the work experience is what you need...and what will help the most. Being so young I can understand how your weekends are precious to you. Is the work being offered involving horses? or animals in general? Really only you can decide after looking at the pros and cons that are relevant to you.

How do I get more horse experience?

We Answered:

If your only creds are just 3 months of riding lessons, you're gonna have a tough time of it!

No one who loves horses or considers them an investment will allow you to work for them. You simply do not have enough experience.

Your best bet would to be to volunteer part time at the stable you are already at. This would mean shovelling out many a dirty stall, but it's a big part of horse ownership.

Word of mouth really matters here. They would be able to recommend you to other horse breeders and owners.

But you will need to keep your riding lessons, which will require financial investments. Group lessons cost less than private, and also can give you more opportunity to network.

Also consider taking a college or university vet course that deals with horses as well.

Good luck!

Working at a yard for work experience, naughty horses, need some tips !!?

We Answered:

It's kind of hard to give specific advice, but you're on the right track - - you need to be confident, which is a state of mind, and partly comes from experience, but predominantly is a conviction that you can do what you're about to do. With all horses you have to be firm, but fair. With stallions, especially, you have to be clear, firm, but not cross the line into abuse. Another important thing to remember is to be consistent. You must have clear rules of behaviour for the horses you handle and never deviate when correcting them.

If the horses are "naughty" they've probably been spoiled, in which case you need to establish with them the fact that you are one up on the pecking order. If the "naughtiness" is a response to abuse, then you have a muddle to untangle, because they have to trust you, but respect you, as well. Hope this brief answer helps.

how can i get a job when i have no work experience?

We Answered:

Depending on your age, they may not expect you to have any work history. Be sure and list your volunteer jobs as it shows you are willing to work without being paid. That says alot for a person. Also, camp counselors have to work closely with people and deal with a lot of situations. It will look good on your application.

Do you have any special skills?? Ever ran a register or worked in a job where you handled money? How are your people skills? Do you enjoy working with strangers? Can you communicate well and work well with others? Ever had any "gold stars" as camp counselor??

Think of the different things that you've done in the past that could help you get this job. If you are called in for an interview, be prepared to back up your application and just be friendly.

horse riding for work experience?

We Answered:

Hi Rach,
You may have problems finding anyone here who went to either of these schools. If I were you, I would inquire at your school and find out which one is better recognized for work experience. That would be the best way to find out what is expected of you. Good luck
