How difficult would it be to find retail/hospitality work in Canada as an Australian on a working holiday visa?

We Answered:

You should be ok. Of all places, Calgary is probably your best bet since we haven't been hit as hard as many other places by the recession. Having said that, it may take a little more work then it would have a year or two ago.

Go for the serving jobs if you have the experience. You'll make much better money than you would in retail. The hourly wage is quite low, but in the right place, the tips can be great! Best locations to look would be 8th avenue downtown, otherwise know as Stephen Ave. 17th ave SW (near downtown), or Kensington (also, near downtown).

Don't worry about the work permit issue everyone has been on about. I think they misunderstood what a working holiday visa is. Don't worry though, I think you'll be able to find work no problem.

I am a Hospitality Graduate; wanna work in Australia as a Management Trainee in any 5 star property plz help?

We Answered:

Hi, you will need to apply for a work visa if youy intend to work in Australia.

I would suggest that you have a look at www.seek.com.au - this is the largest employment website in Australia. Other than that, once you get here, you could approach hotels etc directly.

Want to work abroad in london doing hospitality?

We Answered:

In the UK, we have BUNAC which lets brits travel and work abroad in various schemes.

Google them for the link to the partner in your own country. Alternatively, you could approach a large chain with in your own country and see if they have any opportunities for jobs abroad. You might need to work for them at home for a bit, but if you don't ask you don't get.

What should I do for work experience?

We Answered:

You could have a potential lawsuit for defamation of character. Generally a employer will give out dates of employment and position held when employment verification is requested, b/c giving additional information is a liabiltiy. If a employer gives negative information about a former (or current employee), they may be liable for a defamation claim. The former (or current) employee may make a claim against the employer stating that the information is inaccurate and a defamation of character. The burden of proof is on the employer and, if the employer is unable to provide the proof (i.e. performance evals, warnings, written documentation), the employee will most likely be successful in the claim. Did you sign an mediation/arbitration agreement with your old employer? What state do you work in?
You may want to write your old friend an email and make a implicit threat??
