Front Desk Clerk / Guest Services Clerk is an entry level hotel job that generally requires no education beyond high school and no experience. Depending on where you live, there are usually plenty of jobs open since this is a high turnover position in most properties.

Housekeeping and maintenance rarely advance to front desk - they are different types of job altogether. Night Auditor is a front desk clerk that works the overnight shift and also counts the rooms/money for the day - it usually pays better than 7-3 or 3-11 shifts but requires that overnight working schedule.

Hospitality workers can expect to rotate shifts regularly and will work on nights, weekends, and holidays. The entry level pay is equal to entry level pay in the particular community. It's higher than minimum wage work but under skilled trades. In my community, new front desk clerks make between $7-10 per hour, retail cashiers (for comparison) make $7-8 per hour.

The position advances to Front Office and/or Group Sales before advancing to Asst General Manager and General Manager. These advanced positions generally require both a degree and experience though it's possible to advance to Front Office or Group Sales with only experience (3-5 years).

Prepare your resume and a cover letter and simply take it to every hotel in town. Don't expect the front desk clerk on duty to know whether they're hiring - just leave the resume. ?

Don't worry about your weight, just charm people with your fabulous attitude. In the hotel industry, personality and attitude are more important than physical features, unless you are doing a job you have a disability that stops you from doing something - being overweight is not a disability!

If you have a positive, can-do attitude, people will be far more impressed than if you look good but just aren't interested in taking care of their needs!

Well, if you are 15 I really doubt they will hire you. I work in a hotel for sales and we never hired minors, however this hotel could be the exception. They ask for previous experiences, why do you feel that you can have that job, basic things but experience is the main issue.

A luggage porter is a great way to start. I personally had a high school friend that started with no experience at all and in eight years he was managing a boutique hotel in San Francisco.

In this business it is more about attitude and hard work that education. Of course education will help you excel faster but it sometimes is not necessary if the person is a hard worker and always asking questions.

Smile, Look great, Think outside the box but do your job at the same time, get to work 15 minutes early (no more earlier then that), be a team player in the sense that you want to help other waitresses or staff when you can but without losing focus on the job you are there to do - one example would be, you see a few empty dishes or cups at the end of a table that is not yours and you are going to the kitchen anyways, as you keep walking to the back, grab them and take them to the kitchen. They will notice.

Read the menu before going to work the first time, get to know everything on the menu. Listen to other customers reaction to their meals... when another customer comes in and says "So what is good today?" Try to give them your knowledge of what you hear others saying about certain meals... Example "oh a few people have ordered the fish today and said they really enjoyed it"... but give them real info don't just make it up. If they enjoy something that you suggested after they asked, they will thank you with a nice tip (hopefully). But at least try to know the menu... it will help you so much.

Personally I think you are going to do a great job, you have the right attitude and I wish whoever you had to impress could see you preparing and thinking about ways to do the best job here on Yahoo Answers.
