Jobs Go Public

Melinda Said:

Pet peeve. People who work in public jobs that have an attitude.?

We Answered:

Because they are nasty and rude themselves. I am only 38 yrs old and I agree 100% with what u r saying. Its the same reason that employers keep employees that DO NOT DO THEIR JOB AT ALL but people like u and me are the ones that don't get a good job I guess because we r not rude and have manners. I get so mad at employers these days its like all they want working for them is the rude, no working MF's. I believe that is why I work from home because I am so sick of the working 9-5 enviorment now days, its so different than what it use to be. Maybe if people like us ran the businesses things would be soooo different and we could get rid of the no working rude people that nobody wants to come in contact with. I am with you sister, but what can we do? (Except take their attitude and shove up their A**!

Vanessa Said:

How many public sector jobs will go in order to maintain benefits for the workshy?

We Answered:

The councils are now looking to make redundancies but i see they're not starting at the top, no indeed, those earning in excess of £120k per year are doing the weeding out. It'll be the poorer paid people who actually do work who will go first and their salaries will go into the pot to top up the pensions of the fat cats! As for the workshy - i'd soon sort them out. Stop all benefits immediately and only give them the money when they have worked for 3 days a week cleaning the streets or whatever and the other 2 days must be spent job hunting, though if you were an employer would you want a workshy on your premises?

Ivan Said:

What is better when looking for jobs, a public state university degree or a small private college degree?

We Answered:

In my experience, it really doesn't matter where you go to school. I went to a state school and I've never had a problem getting a job competing with private school candidates. In fact, I can think of several people I've worked with who went to private schools and thought it was something special, but it didn't really play out in their performance. I've worked with very good private school grads, too (and not-so-great public school grads).
Employers are interested in hiring people who are knowledgable, confident and responsible. Where you get your knowledge is really secondary. The only exception I can think of is Ivy League schools, but that has more to do with networking than actually being better hires.
Go where you want to go because you like it, not to impress anyone else. If that's a private school, go for it. Good luck!

Samuel Said:

Where can I go; to apply for public sector jobs?

We Answered:

If I understand you correctly, you want to take up a job in the public sector which will allow you time during the day to work on your stuff? Why does everyone assume public sector work is easy? I don't know anyone in the public sector who isn't overworked & underpaid with just enough time to squeeze in lunch plus if you're caught working on your own stuff in their time, they'll come down on you like a ton of bricks - public sector workers are paid from public funds, they must account for every penny spent and they will make sure you earn every penny.

The Guardian has public sector jobs on Wednesdays in their society section.

Vernon Said:

Can I go into a public relations job with a hospitality degree?

We Answered:

I would say yes.

Floyd Said:

Why are so many people applying for public jobs?

We Answered:

Because those are the only jobs that are guaranteed! Government will bankrupt the rest of the country before it shuts down one of it's own...

Government only looks out for government, so wouldn't it be the "smart" thing to do to sign up?

It's horrible, but that's the way some people think.
