Make Up Work Experience

Harvey Said:

Can you work at MAC Cosmetics without make-up artist experience?

We Answered:

Typically the answer is no but there are exceptions. First and foremost if you have the "look" MAC is looking for. This is a beauty industry and women buy cosmetics from women they want to look like. If you look like a girl other women would kill to look like then yes they will consider you. They will also consider you if you have an exceptional personality that instantly draws people to you and they see you make friends instantly. Another trait of a successful counter artist.
If you get through to the interview round you will have to pass a makeover test. You will have a model that you will be asked to do two looks on. They will not give you the full MAC line so you must use what the Master Artist or Manager has laid out for you. Many times it's not their most popular colors because they want to see how creative you can get with blending, mixing colors, and working with various artistry mediums. You also must pass an eyelash test. You are timed on how fast and flawlessly you can apply false eyelashes and incorporate them into your total look.
Some managers will require you provide a portfolio if it's a large volume market to prove you are worth the makeover interview (which is time consuming for both parties).

Honestly, I don't recommend someone cutting their artistry teeth at a MAC counter. It's high volume, high stress, and if you haven't worked a counter before you may not have the full skills needed to quickly and perfectly move through the number of clients you will be asked to work on.Also, they do NOT train you in artistry until you've been there for almost a year so you better be as good as the other girls from the get go.

Also, you need to get sales experience. If you miss your sales goals you are fired. While you are selling makeup it's really a sales job. You do use your artistry skills to encourage people to buy but you must also possess excellent sales skills to close the deal.

If this is your dream then don't let me discourage you but use this info to help you be prepared to get all the way through the process (takes about 2-3 weeks to get hired). If you have the skills i've mentioned then GO FOR IT!! Even if they give you a no, you can always go back and try again later. :)

Make-up for work experience?

We Answered:

Well a good foundation shouldn't be going oily after just one day. Make sure you get a good one, I use L'Oreal true match foundation and mineral powder and I wear that every day at work without re-applying. Also, you will get a break so don't worry about re-applying it. And about the mattifying pads, you can get sheets of mattifying paper from Boots or Superdrug they are by a brand called Girl 2 Go and cost about £3.
Good luck and hope this helps! :o)

Do you know where can i get more information about Make up Artist work experience? can you help?

We Answered:

Ask around your local beauty salons, i'm sure they'd be keen on having a trainee although nowadays you need to have been to college before they let you actually 'make up' someone.

Work Experience : Beauty, Make-Up?

We Answered:

In my opinion you're more likely to get experience if you offer to volunteer for a bit.
A company is probably willing to have unpaid volunteers versus paying inexperienced work
