Medicine Work Experience
Max Said:
Which is better work experience for medicine? GP or hopsital? We Answered:
Well, that depends on where you would like to practice after school, and also where you plan on going to school. Our medical school, for instance, is offering incentive to those who wish to practice in state as general practitioners as we have a severe shortage.Agnes Said:
work experience for medicine student? We Answered:
You don't need to do an overwhelming amount. There are no added points for doing 10 hours than doing 5. The main thing is that you show on your ucas personal statement, and interview how you have learnt and understood what the medical profession entails.I'd suggest trying a range of different placements, but don't go mad, certainly don't let it jeopardise your A levels. More fundamental is your mentality, GCSE's, A level choices and assurance that this is what you really want to do - it's not a walk in the park! It's very competitive and 99% of people who apply will have some experience. It's more about what you've learnt from it, than th quantity. Perhaps also show ability to work with people outside of the medical setting too.
Hope this helps!

work experience in medicine for high school students? We Answered:
Why don't you call your local hospital? Most hospitals have some kind of teen volunteer program during the school year. However most of these volunteer programs only have you do the usual bureaucratic paper work, but you'll get to see a lot of doctors working in general. The scientific internships (where you'd actually assist in research concerning medicine) usually take place at a university with a decent biological/chemical science program or better yet, a medical school. So if you live near a university, check and see if they have any medical or biological research programs.

Medicine work experience for a student? We Answered:
You can go to a community college to get a certificate as some sort of tech... ER tech, CNA, or phlebotomy, for instance. After that, it's just hit and miss getting a job.Sharon Said:
Medicine Work Experience Question (Year 11)?We Answered:
you usually have to be over 16, but medical schools will usually take no notice of work experience carried out during your schools scheduled week, you can arrange for work experience during your holidays when you have turned 16 however.Sandra Said:
Work experience for medicine, who did what?We Answered:
Start out small, and volunteer at a hospital. Or you could apply to be a transporter. They take patients all over the hospital; in gurneys, in wheel chairs. They take patients to surgery, to get scans like MRI, Xray, CT, and things. They also deliver blood to surgery. It's about the only way you'll get near the OR at 16, unless you're Doogie Howser.Leon Said:
Good work Experience needed to study medicine? We Answered:
I recommend that you volunteer at a local hospital in order to get a sense of what medicine is like in other hospital wards- not just hospice. Med schools in the US like to see some exposure to medicine like volunteering. If you'd like to do some additional work to enhance your application, consider working in a lab where you stand a chance of having your name in a publication. It doesn't even have to be a medicine-related field, but it's always impressive if you can have your name listed in a scientific publication.
