Museum Work Experience

Jerry Said:

does anyone know of any work experience available at museums etc?

We Answered:

I second some advice you've already gotten. Find the local museums or historal sites and ask about their volunteer programs. Most will have some sort of program you can join or will know of somewhere you might be able to volunteer at.

Christian Said:

What kind of background or prior work experience do I need in order to get a job at a Science museum?

We Answered:

It depends on the kind of work you are seeking. I assume you are looking for a full time salaried position. I don't think a specific major is required. The employer just needs to know that you'll be competent and dependable.

Brian Said:

Has anyone done work experience at the Natural History Museum (London)?

We Answered:

I had a professor once who worked there for about four years during his post doctoral period. He never stopped talking about the experience. I have no idea how you apply.

Bobbie Said:

Museum Work Experience?

We Answered:

Try contacting some of the smaller museums or specialist museums. Quite a few people put in the same requests and they may have to spend more time supervising you than useful work you produce because you have few relevant skills as yet.
Did you enclose a SAE with your letter?

Sarah Said:

Does the Hancock museum in Newcastle do work experience for year 10?

We Answered:

When I was in school (quite some time ago now!) I rang the Hancock and asked them if they did work experience.

They didn't but put me in touch with Arbeia roman fort in South Shields. I did my work experience there.

Not sure if they still have a dig there. It was really interesting at the time.

If it is that sort of thing you are interested in then ring around and see.
