Music industry work experience- any suggestions???

We Answered:

Email me and I can talk to you more and answer any questions you may have. I work at a radio station in NYC so I can answer alot of your questions.

Work experience in the music industry?

We Answered:

This is cool, I get to help two people at the same time (Keisha and Northern Downpour).

Okay, you two, you want to find some means of gaining insight and actually learning something of the nasty business we call, "the music industry."

At 15 or so, hitting up some local tavern, to talk to the house band, is completely out of the question. To top it off, even if you were old enough to get in, most of those bands don't have a clue what the music industry is all about.

Definitely try to find some type of recording studio, music producer or promoter in your areas. You will find, most of those guys can be pretty decent and open to helping you. If either of you wish to e-mail me and tell me what cities your are near, I may be able to get a contact for you.

As for songwriting, do an online check for songwriter guilds. This would probably be your best option. It may take a little research and exploring to find one who may hold meeting, or some sort of a function, near you. But, these guilds are all over the place, so you should be able to find something. Most any, top quality, professional or aspiring professional songwriter belongs to one or more of these guilds.

The biggest difference you will find, between the two options I gave you, is: the people in the first option are usually in the business for the money. The people in the second group are usually in the business for the love of the music.

Frances Said:

What kind of work experience would I do if I wanted to work in the music industry?

We Answered:

See if you can help out a local recording studio. Or become an intern at an independent record label or even a radio station. There isn't just one way of getting into the music industry.

There are so man facets to the industry that any experience will give you a unique perspective.
