No Work Experience

Chad Said:

How to apply for work experience at a private hospital?

We Answered:

The hospitals around here no longer take volunteers under 18. This is due to the laws regarding confidentiality. Even people who do cleaning must be 18. I suppose it might be possible for you to get a job in the cafeteria or gift shop since there would be no contact with patients.

What would doing work experience at the magistrates court include?

We Answered:

Ask Bill Clinton, he knows how to train interns!

Vicki Said:

What to do for work experience if you want to be a forensic?

We Answered:

Just as an everyday person, I would think that one should be strong in the sciences (biology, chemistry, biochem) to work in the area of forensics. Please do talk with your guidance counselor as to which courses may provide a basis for further schooling.

For general career information (of those in the US but may get a basic understanding): http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'science technicians', 'funeral directors', 'biological scientists' (may need doctorate degree to become a "scientist" :)

This website has information about forensic science (has a listing of accredited college programs outside the US too)-- American Academy of Forensic Sciences: http://www.aafs.org and can look under resources and click 'colleges and universities' or such.

What sort of work experience is recommended or required to become an airport manager?

We Answered:

You will never be hired straight out of college to be an airport manager without prior airport experience, unless it is an extremely small rural airport and you know someone who can help you get the position. You'll need to get a substantial amount of work experience as a management assistant or in some type of airport operations to manage a public airport of any substance. There's a lot more to it than you might think. The larger and more complex, the more experience, training and education you'll need.

Pertinent experience can be gained at an FBO or airline, but try to find something in airport operations or administration if you can. Look into getting an internship for such a position through your college, and take any airport job you can find during your summer break if you can't get an internship. Also try to get a part time position at a local airport while you're studying...just about anything will help your career as long as it is aviation-related. Line service technician ("ramp rat") is a common job to get.

I assume you are taking a degree in aviation management or airport administration with a curriculum of related courses. The public administration and municiple government courses are extremely important, as are classes in personnel management, airport operations, aviation safety, airport regulations, airport security, and so on.

Good luck. There's great career potential in that field right now.

Kenneth Said:

How can I gain experience for a career with no work experience?

We Answered:

Offer to start at a lower position for the company. Ask them to give you a chance to prove yourself.

Also, you can offer to intern for them to prove yourself also.

Remember, if you have no experience you will have to suffer a little by working for less money than you expected and possibly working at a lower position that you hoped for.
