Perth Work Experience

Katie Said:

What is your idea about my destination Perth? ( i have asked before but by a mistake i have closed it.)?

We Answered:

I live in Perth WA...I love it here, Perth has a smaller population compared to most of the other states and is generally overall reasonably safe place to live (just make sure you move to a good suburb).

I recommend getting a car with your sort of skills as you will probably find yourself working in rural environments. Rent is one thing that is expensive here, and hard to find so you will be looking for a while.

With your skills you will find work plentiful. In general there is an abundance of work here in the west thanks to the Economic boom fueled by mining....so therefor your skills are in demand. Bring as much money as you can, enough to buy a second hand car, rent money in advance and furnishings.....

Good luck I love Perth.

Shane Said:

Does anyone know of a good temp agency (office work) Australia wide or in perth area? thanks?

We Answered:

You should be able to find them in the phone book. Perth/Freemantle is a pretty big area.

Nellie Said:

I would like to move to perth, australia to work and settle down.?

We Answered:

Sounds like you have no background issues for refusal, & some skills they may be interested in.
The 1st port of call for you should be the local Australian consulate office, they will be able to answer most of your immigration questions & give you the paperwork & requirements you need to meet.
Do some checking on the online jobs for Australia ( careerone etc) to see whats open in the labour market on that side of the country, alot of mines work at the moment, but surely plenty of other vacancies.

John Said:

Carpentry work in perth at present?

We Answered:

Carpenter IS on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and the current Migrant Occupations in Demand List (MODL), so if you can find an employer to sponsor you and can meet the other requirements, you would be eligible for a temporary or even permanent work visa if the employer is willing to sponsor you for one.

Construction work is apparently picking up very well in Perth so work should be available, but I'm afraid I can't answer the rest of your question about potential sponsors. Get yourself a good CV and submit it directly to builders and construction companies as well as to recruitment agents. Make it clear that you require sponsorship and be prepared to also include that you will be in Perth at some (specified) time for interviews. If you're still under 31, you could also get yourself a Working Holiday visa (if you haven't already had one) and come to Australia to do your job hunting - that will be much better than from the UK.

As a carpenter from the UK, you will need to have your skills assessed if you are applying for a permanent employer sponsored or independent visa (you don't need it for a 457 temporary visa). It may help your permanent visa sponsor hunting if you already have a positive skills assessment though it costs money which may well be down the drain if you can't find a sponsor unless you mdecide to lodge an independent visa application. Take care to read FAQ 1 on the following about different assessment bodies depending on where you are - you could conceivably end up needing 2 assessments. Danny Said:

Should I work as a teacher or engineer when I'm in Perth July 08?

We Answered:

Engineer. That's definitely a no-brainer. You'll be paid about 5 times more than a teacher and can pick up contract work far easier as an Engineer, particularly in construction and mining.
