Physiotherapy Work Experience

Gertrude Said:

Where is the best place to go to for finding Medical work abroad in the UK?

We Answered:

I believe the best place to start is the British Medical Association in London.

Alternatively, try contacting agencies in London that hire nurses etc.. Search the internet and you will come up with some ideas.

GOOD LUCK!!

Year Ten Work Experience?

We Answered:

AMINALS - Local animal shelters like the RSCPA, horse stables, pet shops.
PHYSIO etc.- You could ask around at your local physio/chiro centres, aged care homes or what about your local swimming centre, most have some sort of swimming or water therapy.
Don't be afraid to ask all around. They can only say no so keep trying. Good luck.
Hope this helps.

Would administrative work in Health care be ok enough experience to become physiotherapy assistant?

We Answered:

Yes there is no reason why you should not go for it, the only qualification you would need is a good all round education to a reasonable level, willingness to learn and know the limitations of your role. You should be able to work independently as well as part of a team and be able to follow instructions and report things both in writing and verbally accurately.
You should get training on the job and be able to obtain an NVQ. When I was working in the NHS the role of the physiotherapy assistant was a dedicated role, I have noticed that there are more younger people using the role as a pathway to physiotherapy training school.
Good Luck

Pathology vs epidemiology vs physiotherapy?

We Answered:

When you say epidemiology...do you mean dermatologist? You've spelt it different ways which makes it unclear. Both completely different specialisms. For either you'll need a medical degree; chemistry and biology A level plus 1 or 2 others, at straight A grades, then a five year medical degree, then specialist training (up to 8 years) to be a dermatologist/epidemiologist.

Work experience in a hospital will be most useful though is hard to get before A levels.

Dermatology is the study of the skin and diseases related to that.
Epidemiology is the study of medical statistics and public/population health.
Pathology is the study of disease mechanisms, again usually needs a medical degree (in this context) though some universities offer pathology degrees - but this will not lead to being a medical doctor.
Physiotherapy is like sports rehabilitation and stuff and is very different to medicine and the other things you've mentioned.

year 10 work experience. where should i do it (australia, Melbourne)!!!?

We Answered:

i'm doing this in june
http://johnwardlearchitects.com/

but why don't you do something with guide dogs, you know, there's the big place i think in ivanhoe near the eastern freeway entrance
i'm sure they'll have cool stuff for you to do

or check out a vet
like surf the net for vets that are near you and pick the few with the coolest site, write down their phone numbers and call during working hours on the school holidays

my friend's working at a crocodile farm or something in alice springs, which is so cool because we're from melbourne as well so she's flying over there

or try the zoo, though i'm pretty sure they'll be booked out

try a footy club...they might be booked out too though

or do you know any adults with cool jobs? like maybe in design or something

one of my friend's dad has organised for her to work at the hyatt so she gets to check out different sectors of the hotel everyday day

but yeh i've generally heard hospitals are good, but they're probably booked out and design or architect firms

when you call up make sure you ask them what will i be doing because so many just get you filing
and unless you know someone there generally the bigger companies are better because they have more kids come in so they have a program
like the place i'm going to has this full schedule planned out

good luck

How to apply for work experience or job shadowing?

We Answered:

You are unlikely to be allowed to shadow a medical professional without having completed at least part of an appropriate undergraduate degree. However, there are settings where 'caring' and other supportive activities are carried on e.g. care homes etc that do not require this level and would appreciate dedicated help. You will need to go through an agency e.g. the Red Cross - who, incidentally, offer all kinds of other internships that would also provide interesting work experience.

What to wear for work experience ?

We Answered:

You want to look casual, but presentable. You'll be working with children, so you still want to be able to be comfortable and have fun - wearing a suit and skirt won't get you very far.
I suggest jeans and a nice top or blouse to make yourself look a little more professional.

And then wear some cute matching ballet flats with a large purse to keep all your things inside.
