can anyone please tell me who to get in contact with if i want to do psychology work experience? We Answered:
You could try the local university and agree to participate in any experimental psychology experiments with the caveat that you can also take notes and have access to the formal documentation for the experiments and the detailed results of any tests in which you participate.Dean Said:

How/ where do you get work experience for Psychology/ Counseling? We Answered:
You should be going into an internship for your senior seminar. Do your best there and often they'll hire you. Other than that, try volunteering at different mental health clinics as anything they'll take you for...trust me, they always need help in some department.Craig Said:

Where can I go for my work experience (psychology)? We Answered:
HiJobs in psychology are very competitive, so it depends what you want to do. The kind of posts the previous respondent mentioned are very good, but also can be extremely competitive. If you want to work with patients / vulnerable groups then volunteering is by far the best way to go as without qualifications you're competing with those who have degrees etc. Care homes, youth groups, anything in hospitals all are good. Be aware though that for a lot of these you may well need a CRB check (and even occ health) to allow you near vulnerable people, but this is just something to bear in mind as it will delay things a bit. All practicing psychologists must be registered with the Health Professions Council, so it might be sensible to see if you can find someone local from their register
Another avenue would be more research-y rather than practice. A lot of psychologists work in research and often they'd be very glad of a pair of hands to help. You could try contacting staff at a local university and offering your services to enter data from questionnaires, get hold of literature, help with reports.....it might sound boring but this will help you to understand how psychology studies are undertaken, how participants are safeguarded etc etc. I'm sure the staff would be happy for you to read the research protocol. This type of work doesn't need any checks but would give you a really valuable insight.
A key thing to remember when you look for these things is that you need them rather than them needing you. I don't mean that to sound patronising, but I often get requests from people asking for work with a kind of 'You should want me as I'm so interested in this subject'. I'm a research psychologist and I guarantee that all my colleagues (in practice or in research) are just as busy as me and the idea of having someone else around who I need to supervise / educate just seems too much like hard work. So, when you're contacting people try to think about it from their point of view eg. how could you help them (saving their time by doing data entry, tidying files, finding literature etc), emphasise how independently you're able to work, how organised you are, any experience with people, any employment experience etc etc. if people don't think they'll need to hold your hand all the time, they'll be far more willing to take you on.
So in summary, I think the kinds of things you could look for (and likely need to volunteer for are):
Working with patients /vulnerable groups: care homes, youth groups, hospitals (eg. pain management clinics), prisons maybe. For more general public work you could maybe do something in health screening (eg. chlamydia, breast screening...as it all links to health psychology),
Research: look on websites for local universities and find active psych research staff. Email them and say you need experience, you're a hard worker and would like to see if you could help them with any current research / psych related activities.
I think that's it off the top of my head. Remember a lot of things are psychology related - don't just think clinical psychology, think about the other areas too.
Good luck
