You might get to go up with someone, but not actually fly a plane yourself, unless that's what you mean?

The problem would be insurance and the crazy Health and Safety rules we have in this country, they'd probably not risk taking you up even though it's really very safe.

My Dad was a pilot in the RAF and I never got to go up, although I did get to sit in the cockpit of a Spitfire when I was about 7 years old, which was cool.

I don't know how old year 10 pupils are, but you could consider joining a local glider club as a cheap way to get airborne.

Whilst I was serving in the R.A.F., a few times throughout my career I can recall "High School Work Experience" teenagers given the opportunity to carry out 1-2 weeks at various different "Flights or Sections", yes. Whether they still do it however, that I can't answer with 100% certainty.

For the R.A.F.. The best thing to do would be to obviously establish which RAF Base is nearest to you. Then contact the "Civilian Relations Officer" (or "CRO) of that RAF Base, and discuss the issue with them and the possibility of so doing.

Another way it may be possible that I also myself had a chance at "Work Experience" with the R.A.F. before I joined up; I was an Air Cadet with the A.T.C. (Air Training Corps), and they organised "work experience" for me knowing I planned to join the Air Force.

Obviously, there will be certain trades and/or areas that they will not allow you to do your "work experience" in, and will be off limits, where safety issues or matters of security clearances may play a part. Again, contacting the CRO of your local base may be of help.

The same applies to the Army, establish your local or nearest Army Base, and contact the CRO and discuss the possibility with them.

The RAF Regiment are not just airfield security, they actively take part in operations outside of airbases in all areas of Afghanistan. 2 Sqn RAF Regiment are airborne special forces support group, which are on the same level as the Paras. Some of them see just as much action as any British Army infantrymen, plus they have the ability to support special forces branches such as the SAS.
