Relevant Work Experience
Jackie Said:
Pre-Law student looking for work experience relevant to the field...?We Answered:
I am also a pre-law student and I work as a floating legal assistant at a major law office. I get to have interaction with many attorney's and see the "inner workings" of the office and I really like it. As a floater I basically travel around and fill in for assistants when they have time off, so I get to work in all the different departments with many different people. It also allows flexibility so I can go to school (regular legal assistant positions are full time). Before I worked here I worked at a smaller firm as a courier/office assistant, which was very interesting but allowed less real interaction with attorneys/cases.
The bigger the city you live in, the more opportunitys there will be for "support staff" type jobs that students are often looking for. Also try looking through your school, law firms sometimes send notices about openings to nearby universities. Lastly NETWORK, that is the best way to find a job, ask anyone you know who is a lawyer to help you out, that is how I ended up here! Good Luck!

If I have no relevant work experience, but some kind of relevant volunteere experience...?We Answered:
When you are writing out your resume, include your volunteer experience AS experience. Just be sure to mention that it was voluntary work. Carefully list out your responsibilities as both a volunteer and sales associate under headings for each. IESales Associate : (Start date to end date) Some Retail Store.
Sold stuff
Got yelled at for nothing
Volunteer receptionist: (Start to end) Whatever office.
Took phone calls
Got paid zilch.

Resume with no relevant work experience? We Answered:
put in a couple of the most recent ones and focus on the leadership roles you took and the teamwork-oriented environment. It takes some thinking, but you should be able to turn everything around to look good for you. For example, use phrases like "interpersonal skills" to make your experience universal... it's important to be able to work in a team and get along with people.Do you have any college team projects? You can include those on your resume also.
Good luck!!
