Solicitors Work Experience

Angela Said:

how can i get work experience in a solicitors firm?

We Answered:

Contact the firms directly, and ask them if you can gain some experience in their offices as part of the course you are doing at present, or as a field you want to go in when you have finished your education.

Your school, college or university will know which ones in your area have previously taken students for a while.

Heather Said:

What solicitors around the Bolton and Manchester area will take me on for work experience?

We Answered:

Stella Said:

Can a 14 year old work in a solicitors?

We Answered:

It depends on the solicitors. Your school careers person should have a list of those locally who take peopleon for work experience. However, my daughter tried and they said they didn't take give work experience as their practice deals mainly with family law and their might be cases (eg child abuse) so it wouldn't be suitable. But as I say, it depends on them.
It's very difficult to get a job at 14, but it can be done. Keep asking around. In the UK you need to get a work permit (not for work experience that the school arranges, but for a job you get yourself). Check out the law, here's a link and some of the details:

Term time
During term time children may work a maximum of 12 hours per week, of which:

a maximum of two hours on school days and Sundays
a maximum of five hours on Saturdays for 13 to 14 year olds, or eight hours for 15 to 16 year olds
School holidays
During school holidays 13 to 14 year olds may work a maximum of 25 hours per week, of which:

a maximum of five hours on weekdays and Saturdays
a maximum of two hours on Sunday
During school holidays 15 to 16 year olds may work a maximum of 35 hours per week, of which:

a maximum of eight hours on weekdays and Saturdays
a maximum of two hours on Sunday

(Sorry, I thought this question was from the UK but now I don't think it is, however I will leave my answer up in case anyone from the UK is wondering about this question. I guess there will be similar laws in the US)

Jerry Said:

help!trying to find work experience in a solicitors?

We Answered:

I'm studying law and trust me it is just a case of writing to as many firms as you can. Make sure you read up about the firm before you write to them though and explain why you have taken an interest in them. Don't just write one letter and post it to 20 firms. A lot of 'big' firms actually pay students to undertake vacation schemes, which you can apply for online; but unless you have an 'outstanding academic background' it is unlikely that you'll even get considered. You could also try ringing some local firms and say that you'reinterestedd in doing some unpaid work experience/volunteering. Hope this helps and good luck!

Pauline Said:

Should I include a sentence that I got whilst on my work experience back in 2004 on my CV?

We Answered:

If your prospective employer conducts a check, and believe me we do. Then you will be left embarrassed. You may say at interview that in your opinion they they held in good regard and mention an occurrence where this was proven.

Discuss It!
