Sport Work Experience

Heather Said:

Whee should my friend go for work experience?

We Answered:

Well with lack of employment/experience, sounds like his best bet is to go back to school & learn a trait or teach in school w/sports in Gym. Maybe as a volunteer or "assistant". It's getting your foot in the door, doing what you love best & getting some pay if hired as an assistant.

Miriam Said:

Can anyone give me ideas for work experience?

We Answered:

-life guard at swimming pool (or just help out with that really)
-you must do some kind of after school sport thing right? ask if you can help out with that - coaching
-help in sports shops, cleaning, cashier etc

if not sports:
-shops, restaurants, cafes etc
-magazines, editing etc
-clinics, cleaning, sorting etc

Hilda Said:

where can i go for work experience for sports physios?

We Answered:

To be a sports physiotherapist you first have to train to be a physio. This takes 3 years in England and 4 in Scotland you then have to be a rotational physio i.e go around all the different areas a physio would work including wards e.g surgical, medical, care of the elderly etc, until you have gained the necessary skills to specialise.

Its really hard to get work experience with physios but you might want to try your local NHS. For more information on physiotherapy go to the chartered society's website www.csp.org.uk

Good Luck!

Where should i do my work Experience?

We Answered:

In order to get experience, the best way to start is by getting into a sport internship. Now a days, since it is hard to find jobs, internship is the growing trend to get experience so that it will be easier to find a job later in the future. Here is how to get a sports internship.

Step 1) Search for available sports internships. Most of the major sports channels and network stations offer internships in sports so check out their homepages to get more information on their internship programs.

Step 2) Go to the Internship Coordinator at your university and ask them about available sports internships. Often the school will have partnerships with certain businesses and the internship coordinator will be able to tell you about those.

Step 3) Contact the programs for the sports internships you're interested to get more information as well as to make connections with those who will be making the decisions on who will be selected for the internships.

Step 4) Write a resume that showcases your experiences in sports and highlights the skills you're bringing to the internships. Have one of your professors look over your resume to make sure it is good enough to send out for internships.

Step 5) Fill out all application materials and make sure you follow the instructions to the tee. You don't want your application rejected because you didn't follow the instructions that were provided.

Step 6) Send all application materials in a couple of months before the deadline. Like most things in life, when it comes to applying for a sports internship, the early bird get the worm.

Step 7) Wait a few weeks and check in and see where your application is in the evaluation process. From this point on it's a waiting game. If you followed Steps 1 through 6 and applied for many programs, then you should have a sports internship in no time.
