You can write to the general manager at the supermarket or retail outlet you wish to work at and ask. If he/she says it is alright then I would contact your school management to confirm if they think it is OK.

If you are 16 at that time then you may well be paid for working there. Ask!

I did that at 17 (I think) in England and back then that was possible without any problems at all.

and then, based on that information, you can find a place you can work at.

First you will need a visa,,second you will have to get to New York before the kids there come out of school for the summer as these kids will also be looking for summer jobs too
