Summer Work Opportunities

Is the Vector Company safe and reliable to apply to?We Answered:
I'd avoid them if I were you. First, they make you buy a $150 set of knives. This is a requirement to get the job. Then, they don't pay you hourly... your entire pay is from commissions. This isn't so bad by itself, but they don't give you any leads. You're selling mediocre knives to you friends and family on your own time. You can techinically make money, so it's not a scam, but the only way to be successful in this business is to sell out all your friends and family. You might as well be begging for money. I would avoid them, and just get a regular hourly job.Helen Said:

Work overseas for summer, 17 year old?We Answered:
You will find it difficult to find any organization who will take a 17 year old out of the country. Perhaps if you are part of a church, you could do a mission. Instead, why not look to your own community to help. Every community, large or small, is in need of something. Perhaps you can help the homeless, the hungry, the abused, the undereducated. You don't have to travel overseas to find people who need help. Kudos for wanting to help.Alma Said:
If you had this opportunity, why would you want to work at this summer camp?We Answered:
Not unless I was a die hard Christian, which I am not.Carolyn Said:
Volunteer opportunities for summer?We Answered:
Try to find a group that is going on a mission trip next summer. By traveling with a group, it will cost less and you can work with the group to earn the money for the trip.Or you can contact the organizations which provide these trips and see if they know of any groups from your area that you might be able to travel with.

what is the minimum age to work in los angeles, california? We Answered:
14 years old. You will need a student work permit from your school, and they can make their own guidelines that are stricter than the state's, like you have to keep a certain gpa, you can only work XX hours per week, etc. It will be very hard to find a job because many of the jobs teens used to get are going to their parents, adults with families, due to the bad economy and layoffs.Ask your school counselor if they know of any jobs, sometimes they get info on jobs that you could not get by yourself. Don't take it personally if you cannot find a job, it's really bad out there now, next summer will likely be better. Even in good times, it's generally hard to get a job at 14, there are more jobs at 16.
If you cannot get a paid job, consider volunteer work. Many summer camps will hire you as a junior counselor, you don't get paid, but it will help you get a paid job when you're old enough. Or volunteer with an organization that has something to do with your future goals, it looks good on your college resume.

You can go to www.linktodiversity.com and find a variety of volunteering opportunities that are being offered around the world. Whether it is internationally or nationally, you will have quite a few choices and pick a program that you like. The website in general has a lot of useful information for somebody who is interested in going abroad.
