Universities In Uk For Mba Without Work Experience

Sonia Said:

Can I do an MBA without bachelor degree with 9 years of experience?

We Answered:

I think it should be possible yes. The best thing to do is go to the website of the university you are interested in and see what their admissions criteria is like. Then, contact the admissions tutor directly with your information.
It looks like you may need to take something called a GMAT, more information is in the link below.

Derek Said:

Indian students studying in US or UK for MBA degree???Pls advise on which b school to choose?

We Answered:

Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree. Some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. You should also realize that when you graduate, you are not as attractive to employers as are students with work experience. Therefore your starting salary may not be any higher than that of undergraduates, but your opportunities for advancement should be better with the MBA. The #1 ranked MBA program in Florida (ranked about 37th in the US) has an MBA program for new graduates. There are probably others.

If your GMAT score is not good enough, you can take the GMAT again. I know a student who took it 13 times, finally got into an MBA program and recently graduated.

Universities don't grant MBA in HR, or MBA in finance, or MBA in marketing. They grant the degree Master in Business Administration, or they offer the MS in finance, MS in marketing, etc. The MBA is a general degree preparing students for management positions in any level of a business, up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. By the time you finish the first year you'll be able to decide which concentration interests you. Regardless of concentration, you still earn the Master in Business Administration. You don't become a specialist in a field with 2-3 courses. It generally takes a year of concentrated study at the MS level.

Before you decide on an MBA program explore the Internet for information on available programs. There is a lot of information available in free public service sites. Some sites are limited to specific countries, such as Germany, UK, or Australia. Some list a small number of select schools, while others may include more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. You can find the program that best fits you. You can search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by type of degree (MBA, MS, Ph.D). In some cases you can select your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs.

You can find data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees such as MBA/JD, and much more. Some sites have links to the schools' web sites, or provide email addresses to contact schools of your choice, and send them pre-applications. You can find lists of top schools ranked by various periodicals or ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. Generally you should stay away from any sites that require you to pay to get information or that promise to find scholarships for you or ensure acceptance into a program. Before you provide any personal information to a site, be sure to read their privacy policy and make sure they are not harvesting email addresses for sale.

Neil Said:

Several MBA questions

We Answered:

Some MBA program may accept some of your graduate work for credit, but that depends entirely on the school. Most MBA programs want students with some work experience, but many take students directly out of college if their grades are high and they have a high GMAT score. Some programs are designed specifically for students with little or no work experience.

As for work experience they look for responsibility to do a job, regardless of the type of work. They want students who have some understanding of what decision making involves, who have observed what others do, It does not have to be high level experience.

To find a suitable MBA program, consult the Official MBA Guide, a free service.
