Unpaid Work Experience

Eleanor Said:

Should I list unpaid internship under work experience?

We Answered:

Absolutely. YES, YES, YES.

Work is work, whether or not you get paid for it. It's especially important to list if it is relevant to the position you are applying for.

P.S. -- Internship is not exactly the same as volunteer work.

Carolyn Said:

Can I claim benefits if I go on unpaid work experience?

We Answered:

Yes ,I would think so, go to your local employment office, give them all the the details, they should be able to advise you how and what you could claim, also get in touch with the Press Association in Fleet Street and ask to speak to an advisor, or even get in touch with a National Union of Journalist representative, someone should be able to help you......Good Luck :-))

Terrance Said:

Eduardo Said:

How do you go about getting some unpaid work experience?

We Answered:

although my volunteer experience wasn't part of my experience for my future career - it was for a summer job.

what i did was, i volunteered 3 months ahead of time before they started hiring. those 3 months came in handy cause after my interview & the three months of helping out, they hired me.

Bessie Said:

Can Employment on an application mean unpaid Work Experience?

We Answered:

It is useful to put this on your form. As long as you explain what it is and not mislead anyone. Getting caught telling a lie is bad news. If it is relevant experience then that would be better but if not then still put it on

Good luck

Carmen Said:

Is it possible to get unpaid work experience at Heathrow airport?

We Answered:

Check-in counters are operated by the individual airlines, not by the airport itself, so you could contact them and ask. Try British Airways first as they're obviously the biggest airline there.

But, I very much doubt it, as there are probably millions of background checks that you need to undertake, and it is probably too expensive and time-consuming for them to bother doing this for someone who isn't a permanent employee. Otherwise, surely the whole of Al Qaeda would be lining up for volunteer jobs.

If you want to do work experience in this field, perhaps the best place to start would be at a centralised ticketing or operations office for one of the airlines.
